How I Work
As a trained humanistic counsellor I am experienced with several therapeutic approaches that I can draw on flexibly depending on the individual client.
I believe each person has their own inherent resources and potential for change and growth. A good counselling relationship helps to activate that potential by the counsellor and client working together.
If you are wondering what it might be like to work with me, here are a few things you can expect from our sessions and why I think they are important.
This is a brief outline. If you want to know more about how I work, please feel free to ask me. I believe it is important not to hide behind a professional mask, that I am forthcoming with my clients about how I work.
Ethics
In my view it is essential to choose a counsellor who can demonstrate they work ethically.
I believe in transparency about my qualifications, ethical standards and contract with my clients. Please ask any questions you may have about these.

- We will explore your feelings and thoughts with a view to finding out what your current difficulties may be and what might be behind them.
- We may look at your personal history – childhood, significant relationships and events in your life etc. – to see how your past experience may be shaping your present patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour.
- I take what is known as a 'relational' approach to counselling. This means that we may talk about what is happening in the interaction between the two of us in our sessions. This is important as it often provides us with very useful information.
